Students are required to assist in 18 of the Academy’s public classes. These will be assigned to teacher trainees once final registrations have been accepted, a roster will be provided. For many this is the first time observing a whole class as a teacher – quite a different experience from being a student in the class. During the first month of the course you will be asked to simply observe. In the second month of the course you will be taught how to assist and adjust students. Please note all trainees will be introduced at the beginning of each class. All past teacher trainees have commented on how important this segment of the course is. Trainees will be teaching their fellow trainees right from the first day. The goal is to be comfortable in front of a group of students, and teach with clarity and confidence.
QUALIFICATIONSTeacher trainees who successfully complete the course will be able to register with the Yoga Alliance (www.yogaalliance.org) and use the Registry Mark (200 hours) and the letters R.Y.T. (registered yoga teacher) after their names. Successful teacher trainees will also be awarded a ‘Certificate of Attainment’ from the Academy of Yoga. If certification criteria are not met, teacher trainees will receive a ‘Certificate of Attendance’ (100% class attendance is mandatory).
ENTRY STANDARDSStudents should have been practicing yoga regularly for at least 1-2 years before enrolling in this intensive training course. This is a practical, hands-on course and students will need to be fit, experienced and motivated to complete it.
